Hailing from Portugal, João Llano came to the world on 25th of May, 1995. He was conceived, born and raised in Figueira da Foz.
He attended his hometown's David de Sousa Conservatory of Music (CMDS) from 2005 to 2013, where he studied Percussion with Fátima Juvandes, Marco Santos, Edgar Araújo, Cristiano Silva, Fábio Manzione, Fernando Chaib, and Saulo Giovannini; Piano with Alberto Queirós; and Composition Technique and Analysis with Nuno Bettencourt Mendes and Paulo Loureiro, with whom he had his first Composition classes.
In 2013, João Llano, then 18 years old, moved to Lisbon to take a Bachelor's Degree in Composition at the Lisbon College of Music (ESML), done under the guidance of Carlos Caires, Sérgio Azevedo and Luís Tinoco, having additionally studied with Roberto Pérez, João Madureira, Carlos Fernandes, José Luís Ferreira, Carlos Marecos, Sandra Barroso, Manon Marques, Paulo Vassalo Lourenço, Óscar Marcelino da Graça, and Lars Arens.
In 2016 he started his Master's Degree in Composition, also at ESML, under the guidance of António Pinho Vargas, having additionally studied with Francisco Cardoso, João Rosa, and Joaquim Carmelo Rosa. He graduated in 2018 with a thesis on an opera composed by himself, "An Act for Jerusalem", based upon a homonymous play by Portuguese surrealist writer Mário Cesariny.
From 2020 to 2021 he took a vocational training in UX/UI Design at FLAG, in Lisbon, under the guidance of João Pinheiro, Greg Palmieri, Cláudia Sardinha, Gonçalo Vieira, João de Brito, Filipe Sobral, Paulo Figueiredo, and Diogo Correia.
In 2022 he took an internship in Graphic Arts at Ondarte, in Figueira da Foz, under the tutorship of Francisco Rosa.
In 2023 he took an online vocational training in Image & Web at the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP), under the guidance of Natércia Simões, Gustavo Catarino, and Maria João Pinto.
Also at IEFP, between 2023 and 2024, he took a course in Specialist Technician in Multimedia Product Development, this one held in Coimbra, under the guidance of Paulo Rocha, Rosa Moreira, José Tomé, Maria João Pinto, Filipe Ramos, Aurora Figueiredo, Angélica Rogeiro, Paulo Gabriel Soares, and Vera Silva.
In 2024, he took an internship in Multimedia at GROOVIT, in Figueira da Foz, tied to his professional training at IEFP, under the tutorship of Nuno Marques.
Since 2024, he has been the Sound Technician for the Celtic music group Bardos. He has also been working since that same year as a Web Designer at the Achillea Association, of which he is a member. Additionally, since 2025, he has been part of the Design, Marketing & Social Media team at the Odezanovedejunho Cultural Association, of which he is also a member.
